Beginning of Fantasy - The Concert - on Jak-TV

July 31st, 2006 by kyokobaby

HOLY SH*T IT’S STILL AWESOME!

Yet again I cried upon hearing Liberi Fatali, Aerith’s Theme & One Winged Angel. I cried like a baby … waa … waa … big crybaby … T_T LOL

After much consideration, I’d like to revise my opinion on Wasabi (the J-rock band wannabe). Their rendition of J-E-N-O-V-A was pretty … acceptable(?). I mean, it was ok … It might be good even, I can’t really tell. Because, on TV at least I can hear some of the bass line and the melody guitar (although not quite as loud as it needed to be, but still sounded way better than at the live show).

Then I downloaded some orchestrated versions of the FF songs. Oh lord, when did I turn into such a freak??

Beginning of Fantasy - The Concert

July 30th, 2006 by kyokobaby

HOLY SH*T IT WAS AWESOME!!!

Initially I thought to myself, "Umm yea, okay, whatever … sure, I’ll go" when Adrian (my brother) ask me if I want to go and see the Twilite Orchestra concert. The conductor, Addie MS supposedly was "poisoned" by his son, Kevin Aprillio, with a CD of Final Fantasy (a playstation game) music, composed by Nobuo Uematsu. Inspired and awed by the music, he decided that it’s perfect to make a concert with the theme, to bring classical orchestra music closer to young’uns.

I like the game, the story’s good and it’s kinda cute. I remember coming home from school, plop down in front of the TV, lying on the carpet, sleeping to the music of the game. It’s very soothing, and it helps that I’m not the one playing it, Adrian does it for me (ho ho ho).

I didn’t expect much of the concert. I was curious to see if my favorite tune (Chocobo) would be played or not (Adrian always says "No Way!" everytime I asked, he he). I was quite entertained with the cosplay people, even Memes (Addie’s wife, a well-known singer) dressed up as Yuna from FF X. Cloud from FF VII (dubbed "Hairspray Man" by my brother, LOL) won the contest. The earth (or Terra, LOL!!!) is crying right now due to a new tear in the ozone layer caused by the 4 Aquanet cans used to create the hair.

After an hour of waiting in the front door (well, the only door available, actually) and much pushing and shoving from people … we finally sat down in our seats. We received a concert program, and it doesn’t include any music list. I thought that was a little weird (later on, I thought it was clever. It left the audience curious and quite surprised when unexpected pieces was played). Close to 9 pm, misteriously (at least to me, ha ha, I didn’t pay much attention) and quietly, the orchestra members had taken their seats and the choirs are climbing up to take their position. Hoooo … I started getting chills (partly because the section we were sitting in was very close to the air condition). ^_^

The Opening Theme from Final Fantasy started playing, the crowd goes wild … yet the orchestra hasn’t even begun to lift their instruments!!! HAHAHA … That was quite cute … But then … "Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec" OH MY GOD!!! LIBERI FATALI!!! It was beautiful! The choir, the orchestra, the music itself is pure genious. MAGIC … that’s the one word that can describe it. I cried … tears streamed down my eyes. It surprises me! I never thought hearing music from a game can move me so much, but it did!!! Admitedly, I cry while watching movies and especially Korean dramas, even reading novels (HA HA HA, ok ok, I’m sappy, what can I do??) but while listening to an orchestra? That’s a first!

When Terra’s Theme, an old "forgotten" music from FF VI, played … the audience let out a "little" gasp (including me). I was expecting music from FF VII onward, so this was a nice surprise.

At intermezzo, a group of 5 guys with horns started coming out to perform Chocobo’s theme. I cheered and laughed, it’s my favorite tune!!! When I had my first Nokia handphone, I made a Chocobo ringtone. He he he. It was way back when Nokias only had yellow or blue backlight. HA HA HA. The crowd really got into it and clapped along, it had a little comedic skit near the end when the tuba(?) player seemed to have a little problem with the instrument. Heh heh. Then they exited stage left and the fans applauded loudly.

Performances by the special guests were very good. Arina (Mocca) performed a song from FF IX and Eyes on ME from FF VIII. It was allright. Sherina wore kimonos and performed songs from X and X-2 that I’m not familiar with, but I really get the emotion and was very impressed with her voice. Piano performance of Aerith’s Theme by Jessica was allright … Kevin performend Tatakau Monotachi from FF VII - Advent Children …  WOW is the right word to describe it. Impressive! He surely didn’t get to perform on stage purely out of nepotism, I’ll give him that. And then … there’s Wasabi … what? was? that? … How anyone thought of any importance for them to perform is beyond me. It was forgetable, awful and best left out of the program and changed with other music from Nobuo sensei’s vast collection.

Putting silly nonsense behind (namely WASABI), the choir section stood up … I freaked out!!! Then they performed Divinity (Advent Children) … Wow, even though I didn’t really know the music, again, it brought tears to my eyes (what can I say, I love me some good choirs).  After that, the Final Fantasy theme began … I cried yet again and was quite worried when the conductor exited the stage. When he came back with much cheering from audience, I was ready for something very special ….

ONE WINGED ANGEL … OOOHHH MMMYYYY GAAAWWWDDDD … Hysterical is putting it mildly!!! I screamed from the top of my lungs and lost my voice. IT WAS AMAZING!!! "Estuans interius ira vehementi Estuans interius ira vehementi Sephiroth SEPHIROTH!" And the crowd goes wild, jumped up and down, roared and cheered, and the uber geeks (like me ^_^;) cried tears of joy. It was a beautiful moment. There really should’ve been an encore performance, without the band. ARGH!!!

There were a few things that could use improvements. Wasabi should be striked out from any future performance(s), they performed 3 blunders … The venue should be upgraded. I heard Balai Sarbini in Plaza Semanggi has very good accoustic, I wouldn’t mind paying RP 500.000 for an orchestra concert. The bazaar was too close to the entry, therefore cramming people that lined up to get in and causing little kids to be squashed up by the pushing and shoving. Sound mixing was poor. The sound engineer appeared to have dozed off and somehow realized their mistake and fiddled with the mixer and unsuccesfully attempted to fix the guitar volume when Wasabi performed J-E-N-O-V-A. This problem again arised when the band performend with the orchestra in the middle of OWA. Agh … luckily when that part was over, the orchestra picked up the broken pieces and lifted up that song to what it’s supposed to be.

Overall, I really enjoyed the concert. Props, kudos, cheers and all the best for Mr. Addie MS and Twilite Orchestra, the choirs, the guest performers. They really did a good job (sans Wasabi and the sound engineer). After all, it’s the first time ever doing a concert for the young audience like us, and they did give us satisfaction. Special shout out should go to Kevin for introducing his father to the music of Final Fantasy and Nobuo Uematsu. Without Kevin, there wouldn’t be a Final Fantasy concert, and let’s hope there will be more in the future. Heh heh heh. ^_~

I’m really thankful for my brother and my cousin Niki for "dragging" me to this madness. It was the best Rp 200.000 that I have ever spent in my whole entire life.

-L

Reminder: If you missed the concert or if you’re really uber geeky (like me, meh heh heh heh) and want to catch an "encore performance" … The taping of the concert will (supposedly) air at JakTV tonight (Monday, 31 July) at 9.30 pm. So watch it if you’re currious as to why am I acting like such an idiot … har har har … ^_^;

Miss Universe 2006

July 24th, 2006 by kyokobaby

I saw the pageant last night, it was kinda "meh" … The winner, Miss Puerto Rico, looks kinda plastic-y, like a Barbie with her wide smile, big eyelashes and weird round boobies.

JapanHowever, looove Kurara Chibana from the beginning (Miss Universe Japan, she’s the runner-up) … her national costume was sooo cool! She wore a red ninja/samurai costume complete with a katana! … It looks like an anime character in a cosplay! (I thought she looked like a female counterpart of Ninja Gaiden/Ninja Ryukenden) Compared to other contestants that wore carnivale-like costumes, this was quite original, creative and unpredictable! I would’ve expected a Miss Japan with a kimono for her national costume (like Miss Korea, who wore a hanbok for this part of competition) … But she came out with her katana drawn out … whoa! It was only for 5 seconds, but I really enjoyed the national costume part of the competition because of her. ^_^ Next year I expect Miss Japan to dress up with a Battle Royale costume. HA HA HA HA HA LOL.

Miss universe … isn’t it a bit arrogant for us earthlings to name the pageant like that? Hmm …

My latest hobby …

July 22nd, 2006 by kyokobaby

… is reading Celebrity Gossip Blogs and downloading fashion runway pictures. Oh nooooooo … I need to be more productive, I know. But I just can’t help it! I’d read gossips about Tom Cruise and his crazy antics and his robotic fiancee Katie Holmes. Also the "alleged" baby Suri, whose existence spawns numerous speculations about how the baby is imaginary and the pregnancy was only a beach ball and so on. So "cruiseazy" and I love it! My favorite blogs are www.PinkIsTheNewBlog.com, www.PerezHilton.com and www.PopSugar.com . I still like www.People.com for the news, and www.Eonline.com for the Fashion Police and The Awful Truth (another cute gossip column). But … lord help me, I just can’t quit reading them … They’re too funny.

EveningchanelRunway pictures … Well … Fashion is my passion (hmmm, did I just stole a line from Copa Cabana??), I love clothes, especially beautiful dresses. I don’t have the money to buy it Eerrr, correction: I DO have the money to buy it, but I still have a good & hard-working brain to tell me that one piece of dress is not worth my kids’ college fund … so I look at the pretty pictures and daydream about wearing a white Chanel  gown aboard a yacht in St. Tropez … uh, yeah right.

Nasu Miso

July 21st, 2006 by kyokobaby

Here’s something yummy that I made last weekend.

NASU MISO

Cut some japanese eggplants length-wise in two. Season the fleshy part with salt, pepper & olive oil.

Cover a baking tray with aluminium foil and coat slightly with olive oil. Put the fleshy side down and brush up the skin part with more olive oil (it probably will clog your artery, but at least you had something yummy in your tummy, heh heh). Grill the eggplants for 10 minutes (I put them in my toaster/oven) or until the skin is a little burned. Turn them over and grill for another 10 minutes or until they turns brown-ish (ovens may vary, so you have to watch your eggplants.)

As you wait for your eggplants to brown, mix 1 teaspoon miso paste, 1 teaspoon mirin, 1 teaspoon sugar. Adjust accordingly to your taste. After the eggplants have turned brown, score the flesh with a knife, spread the miso on top and grill 1-2 minutes or until the miso sizzles and bubbles up.

Sprinkle some toasted sesame seed or minced scallions on top and serve.

Very easy.

Update: I made them again tonight and this time I leave the skin to be a little char-broiled and grill them so they turn wrinkly and really soft. YUMM YUMM!!! It’s even better. Just scoop up the flesh from the charred skin with a small spoon … dee-lish!

Wedding Reception

November 20th, 2005 by kyokobaby

I went to a wedding reception in Mulia Hotel the other nite. I wore a nude long beaded dress with a little train in the back (I know, who cares, but it serves a point later) with very high-heeled shoes, to lift me up a few inches so that my dress won’t pool around as much in the back.

T’was a huge over-crowded one (didn’t really expect it to be) and as I enter, Jade stepped on my train. It wasn’t really her fault, I stopped because there’s a swarm of people in the front door blocking my way in. The we inched our way towards the guestbook area. To make our way in the ballroom we had to "gently push" people around and finally we got to the "shaking hands with the happy bride-groom" line, which snakes all the ways around the ballroom walls. The line hardly moves at all because at times they stop and take some photos with friends and families. So after 10 minutes standing in the same spot, we gave up and went to eat instead (later, we asked the groom’s brother to let us cut the line, heh heh heh). When we got our food it was a tough battle to eat in peace, as waiters inched their way lifting their serving trays full of uneatean food and dirty dishes come and go, people moving all around trying to get to the food, more people standing around trying to eat their dinner … ALL of them stepping on my itty bitty train, jerking me back everytime I stepped forward. Geh …

I hate wearing a beautiful dress to overcrowded weddings. People step all over it and they can’t really see the dress design properly … HO HO HO.

Oh yeah, later as we left the reception (which is almost 2 hours later, around 9pm) the bride-groom and parents were all still in that big-ass podium shaking their hands away. And the line was still as long and as slow as before with no signs of dying down. At this rate I doubt if they can come off that stage and "mingle" with the guests (which I highly don’t recomend, because the bride wore a huge dress that I imagine is very hard to manage among that kind of crowd).

Oy vey … I just want to go home and soak my feet in warm soapy water …

TV Junkie

November 14th, 2005 by kyokobaby

I’m always watching TV in my spare time. Not that I don’t read books, I just go through them too fast. I do chick-lits in under a day, thrillers under 2 days… and then I’m out of books and I’m too cheap to shell out Rp300-500Gs to buy new ones. Those are money better spent on clothes!! (Hahaha, just kidding … I allocate the money towards Jade’s library fund. ^_^) Besides, real good books will soon be turned into Hollywood movies anyway (ie. DaVinci Code).

Right now some of my favorites TV shows are Desperate Housewives, Sex&The City (my fashion bible, tee hee), Pimp My Ride (I love Xzibit & the WestCoastCustoms crew … they’re so cute and funny!), Cribs, Oprah & "reality" TV shows (Rich Kids - Cattle Drive … SO HILARIOUS!!! OMG, the madness and the stupidity, it’s the ultimate guilty pleasure!!! I can feel it killing thousands of brain cells per second, yet I enjoy it immensely for unexplainable reasons. Crazy!). I’m loving Cooking/Entertaining shows, ie. Forever Summer with Nigella Lawson (domestic goddess, move over Martha Stewart), Surreal Gourmet - Bob Blumer, Jamie Oliver, etc. Who knows why … I don’t cook that much, certainly don’t entertain (I do live with in-laws … excuses excuses) … I just love watching them cook up something that looks fabulous and imagining myself in my own kitchen cooking for dinner parties I’ll be throwing in my own house … sigh …

Ooh … gotta go … am watching "Kill Reality" … sooo stupid!! HAHAHA … I know … Can’t help it … I’m crazy …

Home Sweet Home

August 30th, 2005 by kyokobaby

I can’t wait to have my own house. Yes people, I still live with my in-laws … and boy, let me tell you … it ain’t easy.

They’re really not that bad, it’s just … I didn’t even really like living with mine, and I loved it when we were living alone in the US (sans parents) … now I have to live with a new set of parents. How I wish I was still living with my parents now, imagine the irony … Hehehehe.

The thing is, it doesn’t feel like home. All the people living in the house spend 90% of their time in their own room. They don’t even have dinner together like normal family … I don’t know, I just think it’s weird. It’s like living in a hotel, where you don’t interact with other patrons. You just live in your little room with your TV and remote.

When I have a house, there will be no TV in the bedroom, especially the kids’ rooms. Speaking of bedrooms, right now ours is growing smaller and smaller by the second. Either we have too much junk, or we just don’t have enough space in 1 bedroom for 3 person. I’m adding more drawers and trunks and boxes, but the clutter is just so unbeareble and uncontrolable. It simply won’t look tidied up, no matter how hard I try to contain the junks. *Sigh* …

Oh, and the most annoying thing about this house is the water. It’s so bad that I have to shout out to the maids to turn the water pump on every time I want to shower or give my kid a bath. Sometimes in the night there’s no water at all. Weird isn’t it? :p

When will I have my own house? God willing, it will be completed next summer. Cross fingers.

-L

Update: Well, summer’s here … and still no sign of completion. God willing it will be done before the Moslem new year (lebaran). Until then, am not getting my hopes up.

More update: Jeffery finally bought new jet pump for the old house. Hallelujah, we have running water day and night + the water pressure’s very good. Now I’m at peace.

Closet Therapy

June 19th, 2005 by kyokobaby

I need bigger closet space for my clothes!!! I spend too much money on cheap little frilly items. You know the ones … $3 skirts and blouses bought at the flea market. $5 knitted handbags and accesories bought in Bali. All the $2-3 tank tops in every color ranging from fuschia pink to lemon yellow to leprechaun green to eggplant purple and $5 cardigans in all the rainbow colors.

Come to think of it, I don’t really spend loads of cash for clothes, but all those little items are piling up very fast in my little wardrobe!

Perhaps the best solution is to spend $200 on a pair of jeans and $300 on a blouse, then I might be able to control the clutters… ho ho ho. NOT!!!
